I just wanted to know where to look/how to find the code for my computer. I'm looking at a chip for sale, but i need the computer code. Where can i find it? I know this is stupid, but where is the actual computer located if and when i do get a chip and need to install it? I'm finding more and more that the explorer and my mustang have totally separate places for things......
The computer for your 92 Explorer is located in the r/s kick panel under the dash. Very easy to get to. Also, to read the codes, the diagnostic connector is on the r/s fender apron near the fuse box under the hood.
Ok thanks, got to it. There are a few sets of characters on white stickers on the side of it, so i cant really tell which one corresponds to my "computer code". When i say code, i'm talking about the 4-character designation that i need to give to either diablo or superchips for a performance chip. I found one, it is T2Z1. Does that sound correct?
No, that doesn't sound like the number. Usually on Fords, they use a number such as F27F-12A650-XB or something similar on that white label near the main plug harness. That's the number Ford dealers need......I don't know about Super Chips.
Yea i know, but on my mustang, the code is only 4 characters. I was thinking usually on fords, its just a 4 character designation. The number you listed is more like a part number that you'd need to replace the computer. The 4 digit code is more like a fingerprint, unique to that 1 specific computer, and thats what diablo and superchips need, since every single computer is different. I just dont know where its listed, or on what part of the label its on. I would think it would be the "F27F" part of the number you used as a reference.
Yeah, you're probably right. You better pull the computer out and give them every number you can find on the labels. There is also a calibration code on one of the valve cover labels they might want, too ( but usually it is unreadable)!
