This truck has given me ZERO problems until this past thousand miles; water pump went out and turbo coolant line sprouted a leak. Both of which were cheap easy fixes but now my truck is overheating at low speeds with a load behind it. Leaning towards the fan clutch. What do yall think? And is there a way to test or have it tested before biting the bullet for a new one?
Do you hear it engaging? Sounds like a big truck when the fan comes on, also don’t know how important it is
but I believe you are to put the system under vacuum when refilling coolant, this prevents air locking.
Was this done or not? Could it be air locked?

Ive heard the fan before, but not since it started this overheating. I guess that shouldve been my first indicator.
Also, not sure what rock Ive been living under but thats the first Ive heard of the vacuum thing. Air lock could be a possibility
Yeah, really need to check the fluids cold, especially several times after have the work done you indicated.
When the clutch fan engages on high, there is no mistake it is working.
It can be tested with IDS at the ford dealer. They can hook up and command it to engage. There would be a diagnostic fee for that though.
First verify all fluids are at the correct levels.
Also when you say overheat, is it the temp guage that starts to move to the right and stays there or are there warning messages or what?
Thank you, I figured Ford mustve had some way of testing them. Im going to guess itll be more logical to just buy new but we will see.
And by overheating I mean the gauge gets dangerously close to the red mark, not enough for the warning light to go off, but I know it shouldnt be heating up even that much
