I am absent some serious powers of observation. I've had this truck for years but because there aren't a lot of them around - at least in my area - I didn't notice that the 1950 F1 apparently didn't come with a hood ornament. Looking at pictures of other restoration I finally observed none seem to have one. But there's been one on this truck since I bought it from my grandfather 40 years ago or better. I assume it was an aftermarket thing. Can't imagine it was an option. Can anybody shed some light on this. Where it might have come from? What it came off of if it was added?
Thanks
Phil
They were certainly popular in 1950. But your right you don’t see many fords with these accessories. Chevy trucks came with an optional factory hood ornament for their trucks. I know I’ve seen in car accessory brochures for this era Ford had at least one offering in a particular year for its cars not trucks, as factory item. Although who knows what individual dealers did? Aftermarket choices were plentiful. It certainly is period correct and it looks cool. Although extremely nice your truck appears that it’s not strictly a stock restoration. I think having it the way your grandfather had it maybe more important? What years did he own it?

Hard to know since I never asked him but I
can’t remember a time when he didn’t own it. I’m 75 so I’d say in the 50’s.
interesting , show us some more pics of the truck and when your grandfather had it if you could?
Here you go. Grandpa painted it black sometime in the past. It was sea island green when it was built. Sat in my cousins farm lot for 25 years before I got around to fixing it up.
Thanks. Looks like it came off a 1948 Chevrolet fleet master. Go figure.
makes sense they were nice looking vehicles. I have an old Hudson gear shift **** that someone put in my truck along time ago. It’s been there so long I was inclined to just leave it on there.

thanks! You don’t still have that black mirror around do you? Would you like to sell it to me?
