I bought a 2012 6.7 deleted and tuned, truck had a CEL light on and I was told it was "just a glow plug". I had him pull the codes with the ez lynk and scrolled through about 15 codes. Ended up negotiating down to a price I was willing to just deal with it and find a way to fix it. Well, the more I research the more scared Im getting. Truck runs great, has tons of power and rides perfectly but these codes are unreal. Ive now got a "service advancetrack" when I turn the key, the airbag light stays lit, and the check engine stays on even after clearing the codes. Its almost like the ez lynk isnt clearing anything whatsoever because if i scan right after i delete the codes their all still there. Ordered an OBD cable which should be here tomorrow, downloaded the as built data and got FORscan installed on my laptop, the codes Im seeing are from the ez lynk and they are about 5 BCM codes, restraint communiacation codes, 3 ABS codes....what did i get myself into. Where do I start with it all?
even a new unmodified 6.7 has electrical horror stories...my 2019 stock truck takes me on gremlin hunts on a regular basis. it is scary.
you definelty need forscan so you can read true codes and with forscan laptop version you can run some re-calibration routines that will help keep codes cleared.
re-loading as biult data has helped me but...as soon as you do...there will be a mis match between as built expected defualts and actual learned data ...this will result in either you haviing to run re-calibration on the moduels that offer it...or letting the learend features learn.
there is a mechincal relation ship with some of these codes...hill decent/accesnt, advance track, and a few others have physical wire bundles that need cleaning at connections . front camera needs service error often will offcur if you enable DPF percents, etc.
I would ge the tools needed and start a new thread for each code in the 6.7 section and get advise on how to mitigate.
the deleted truck in general is a problem especially if you did not get the delete devices that can load and unload the PCM firmware. if FORD reflashes our truck, you are basically going to have a 6000lb brick on your hands so proceed with cuation.
Had I known about these electrical horror stories of these trucks prior to buying it I would’ve stayed away. But I’m here now, so I’ll find a way. I’ve been deep into large competitive RC helicopters for over a decade so I’m not a stranger to electronics or programming, I just need a crash course and some guidance.
I appreciate your response, as soon as I get the data this afternoon I’ll go start some threads in that section. In the meantime I’m hoping the truck doesent leave me stranded somewhere but like I said it runs like a champ and I’ve no codes related to the engine besides the #1 glow plug control module communication so I’m gonna keep driving it and fix as I go.
Absolutely keep us updated on what's going on with it. Start with sharing all the codes you're pulling up, and there'll be disagreements as to what should be addressed first, but give it some time and you'll have it turned from a nightmare to a dream!
