Spout/timing problems

I am having a problem setting timing on my 1992 f150 4.9. It is a swap in from a different truck. I installed new distributor, wires, plugs and cap. I was having a miss problem and low idle so I hooked up a timing light and it was setting at 24 btdc. I tried to pull the spout connector to set base timing and it won’t start with it unplugged. I changed the TFI to a black module and when that didn’t change anything I checked the computer and found out the capacitors were blown. I replaced it and it still won’t run with the spout unhooked and I’m not sure how to time it when it won’t run or stay running without spout unhooked. Any help would be amazing

With the Spout connector out, will the timing light flash while the engine is turning over with the starter?
If so, can you see what the timing is at cranking speed?

I haven’t even thought of that but that may be my ticket thank you!
