i have an 82 f100 with 4,9 motor n\had this truck a long time
it has been running just fine till it seem to be out of time so
what happens if your Ignition Control Module goes bad
Or it will run till it heats up and then it's dead. When it cools off it can start again till the cycle repeats itself. I would buy one and try it. If that is not it, throw the new one under the seat for a spare.

Dave is right they work heat up and don't work cool off and work. Sometimes they just stop working but most it is as above.
There have been posts of poor performance and after every thing else changing the box fixed it.
When you get a new one ask for top of the line, you get what you paid for. I am running TOL NAPA in my 81 F100 with a 300 six with no issues.
It also would not hurt to check the timing and set it to 10 to 12 BTDC as it will help on power, mine is at 14 BTDC
Check mechanical and vacuum advance also..

Thanks for all the help i ordered a new part realy flips me out when things just go hatwire for no reason But there is always a reason we just have to learn what that is thanks again
Who did you order the part through and hope it was top of the line as the cheap ones may only last a little while.
Let us know how you make out with it swapped in.
If for some reason it dose not help report back here with what is happening, when it happens (cold or hot running and starting)
Miles on motor and if the truck had been sitting or sits for long times.

Last time l checked, RockAuto still had some Motorcraft DSII units.
How does the NAPA unit compare to the Motorcraft, @FuzzFace2 ? About the same (durability, cost)? I pd $50 + shipping from RA. $25 got me an old OEM unit that l keep as a spare.
OH.@Cg willie Willie , if you don't have any weirdness like CA emissions or high altitude to contend with, get the box with the BLUE wire strain reliever, often called the grommet. I didn't see that mentioned earlier.
Don't know between the MC & NAPA ones but the NAPA one has been good to me for over a year now and they had it in stock did not have to wait for it.
I just wanted to point out that all parts stores will have a cheap & expensive part and they will always go for the cheap as thats what everyone wants.
