Have a 2017 with 6.7 and have ran synthetic since early on. Mainly use truck to tow a 20K camper in the hills of east TN, truck has a little over 21K miles. Local dealer is running a good deal on a package of 3 oil changes but not synthetic. Any issues of changing from synthetic back to regular? With my towing should I just stay with synthetic? When towing around in the mountains I see oil temps in the 240 range alot.
I'd stick with synthetic based on your use which is in line with what your manual states. There's no issue going to and from synthetic, but the 10W-30 is technically not in line with what the manual states should be used based on your use.
My experience (and some others) is pick one, synthetic or semi-synthetic, and stick with it for the life of the truck. Switching back and forth will cause seals to leak.
I went from Motorcraft semi-synthetic to Mobil 1 high mileage full synthetic at 150,000 miles on my 07 F150 Triton. Within 2 oil changes I was leaking a quart each month. So I would advise since you have started with synthetic that you stick with it.
I second that. I worked in a shop when I was in college and saw that changing oil brand/models would cause leaks. Especially changing to synthetic at higher miles.
Maybe things have changed since then but that wasn’t too long ago.
I think I did like 60 cars on busy a Saturday and we had a service records computer and I could see their last oil change place changing the sticker if they weren’t at our shop prior.
Nothing beats synthetic and if it comes with from the factory, just use and forget about old technologies and old non-synthetic oils.
The simply can't compete with synthetic oils!!!!!

There is a search feature on this forum, it will give you many oil threads to read on exactly this subject.
Haha, search for oil, and tell me out of the 2000+ posts that contain the word oil are the ones you're looking for? I found this one that way. Trying to remember why the manual says use 5-40, why I have two partial jugs of 10-40, obviously from my last two changes, and why the parts store wants to sold me 15W40, and if its ok to use the partial jugs to top off after I change the oil.
I'm an IT guy, and searching for stuff online is what I've never figured out.

From the manual which is quicker than a search sometimes. Why you have 2 partial 10-40, didn't look at the manual?
I have 2 partial 10W-30 from previous changes. My question was more of why the parts store gave me 15-40, and said that was what is recommended. I guess according to the manual, it is correct. It doesn't get below 20 degrees around here any time soon, but could get to low teens a very few times, usually around February.
My point was about using the search, that was the struggle.
But yeah, search for oil, pages and pages of hits, most which where the back and forth about what brand/syntetiic, back and forths, lol.
I searched my manual for oil, and after clicking through the links that came up, finnally found the right spot. lolol. Don't see an issue with mis-interpreting this as being NOT for the Diesel, even though it says it in great big letters right under the image. hahaha. Yeah, I caught it, but damn, they really could have made a better manual. Like keep which engine you're talking about right above the image. If I made this mistake, I'd be qualified to work at a dealership, lol.

Motocraft semi-synthetic is a well respected oil. I use it in all my vehicles.
