Has anyone replaced the lower convex glass with flat mirror? These really drive me crazy when backing up. I wish there was a option to just have one big flat mirror.
I think the super duty having the two large side mirror sections that are distinctly different with one flat and one convex will take some getting use to if you are new to it.. I still back up using mirrors and not the camera and I think I am pretty good switching from top mirror to bottom mirror as needed... but I agree with OP and would prefer to have one large flat section of side mirror like the old days. The convex mirror increases view but also distorts the view. Having one large normal view over one large distorted convex view means you need to focus on only one part of the mirror.
If you have ever driven a commercial truck, you would know how important they are. The convex (smaller) mirror should be adjusted to only see the top rail of the bed and the side of the truck to the ground. The larger mirror can then be adjusted to your liking, I have mine set to view about mid horizon, so I do get an overlap at the bottom view of the top and the top view of the convex mirror, hope that makes some sense.
Just found this thread while researching mirrors. Put me firmly in the “just one big sheet of glass” camp. I’ve had this truck since April and don’t like the mirrors anymore today than the day I drove it home.
The bottom mirror is helpful to see the rear tires when backing into a parking spot tight to the curb or watch trailer tires but for any other use they suck IMO. The view is too far away and distorted.
The top mirror is only helpful to see what’s behind you from shoulder level up. You can’t adjust it to see behind you and beside you. I find it close to useless.
Additionally the depth and distorted view difference between the mirrors is so drastic that glancing from one to the other while backing up is distracting.
3 other vehicles we own have smaller “normal” mirrors and I can back any of them up our driveway at 10-15mph if I want. This dang truck with elephant ear looking mirrors, I can’t backup over a crawl, and often have to stop and pull forward to get back in shape.
Ive been researching F-150 mirrors to do a swap. I need the features to match (power adjust, heated, BLIS, manual fold) and it seems finding one that has those features is like hens teeth. Most I’ve seen with BLIS are power fold.
I haven't had any issues with the mirrors and actually love them! And before this truck I was driving a little dinky car with little dinky mirrors. It was so refreshing being able to actually see in my side mirrors when I got this truck!
