My uneducated guess here would be that inside whichever module feeds impulses to your gauges. there's a circuit board that has a temperature-sensitive short in it ... and is probably something as simple as a 15-cent resistor. Like some electrical problems, the fix is usually very simple and straightforward, but locating the item/location that needs fixing is what'll cause you to have a few stiff drinks.
Do you have the Ford wiring diagrams? Not the CD version, but the factory service manual? If so, you can trace the specific gauges back to a common denominator. And don't rule out a faulty ground. Most electrical problems I've faced on mine and others' vehicles has been a bad ground connection.
I wish you the best of luck with this problem .... and a huge dose of patience.
