I have a 78 F150 i rebuilt from a rustbucket.
I got a cab from Texas and a 94 flareside bed from
a local yard. I have a good PA title.
Last week I was unfortunate to have a local cop
stop me for a stop sign violation
he said I had a problem because the truck didnt have
a vin plate.
as far as I know 78 and 79 trucks had only a sticker
on the drivers door frame that either faded out over
time or fell off or got painted over.
I also know the vin was stamped on the frame
under the driver side of the cab.
does anybody know where i can get proof of this
to try to satisfy the cop
I am not sure what he is going to try to do to me
I have too much in this truck to lose it.
Your State Police can do an inspection of the vehicle and issue a document as to the VIN of it. Call your DMV to find where the inspection is available.
If your truck is 2WD the vin is also shamped on the pass. side frame rail about 2" forward of the front crossmember.
theres a "buck tag" on the fire wall that has the vin on it.
is the"buck tag" on the outside of the firewall? which side? my truck has crappy aftermarket doors and one of the rivets holding the vin tag was loose. I just spread it a little from the inside so it's tight but I've always wondered if the plate is really for the cab.
its under the hood on the pass. side, right at the top on the cowl, its 1 1/2" X 3" and is held on by a screw and painted with the truck.
theres one on the bed too its on the pass. side on the front bottom, you have to get uder the truck and look between the bed and cab, mine hangs down below the bed.
