Help Figuring out these Fuel Lines.....
This is the Fuel lines on top of the gas tank. 2002 F-250 XLT 5.4L 38 gal tank
From videos I've watched, I haven't seen a set-up like these. I am guessing I cut the green and red Zip Ties. Are these the "pull clips"? I'll assume my Fuel Line Disconnect tool goes around the silver pipe and then pull off the fuel line...?
The electrical sending unit is the blue arrow and the 2 red arrows are the fuel lines, "in and out".
So......I need help. I am lifting the bed of the pickup in order to get my hands on the top of the tank. Ultimately I have to LOWER the gas tank or lower it a tad to get to the fixed 1/4" brake line that ride along the rails. There is no other way to get at this brake line. In order to lower the tank I must remove the fuel lines. Before I start cutting anything, I want to check with the group. I am in CRUNCH TIME and this needs to be finished by Tuesday. Gotta work next 8 days. These brake have been holding me back. Beyond the black soft boot over the hard Silver pipe is the fixed silver fuel lines that runs along the frame rail.
So, If anyone has an idea, please share best method for removing the fuel line connectors.
I noticed the black wire protector had a (label that stated) build date of 2015. The truck was built in 2001 and I can not remember having a repair job on the sending unit. Weird?
Place the tool around the metal hard line of the fuel line with the ridge that protrudes out facing the quick connect clip where the hard line and the clip meet and the flex line overlaps the hard line. Inside that clip are some metal tabs. The round ridge protrusion presses those tabs against the walls of the quick connect fitting and allows you to pull the flex line off the hard line.
the zip ties are not factory and look like they were done by someone.
easiest way to do this is
empty the tank
remove rear driveshaft
remove tank straps
drop tank down and get hit hands on the lines. The tank will drop a good amount
unclip lines and tank out and work on the brake line.
the issue with removing the bed is that the bolts may not be easy to remove due to rust and may be seized. They also self tap in and are in some cases a bear to remove. I would at least throw a bunch of penetrating oil on the threads. Go from underneathThey require a specific torx tool and if you try using a regular torx you’ll break it. Also you’ll need to remove the wiring harness and gas tank filler. Also will need four people as a bed is really heavy. I’ve removed about 8 beds and I use a forklift. If you’re by yourself yiull need a cherry picker to move the bed.
Here's my solution to the 4 friend lift. An engine hoist, some 2x4's, Ratchet Straps, and Presto!
When I got the replacement Brown bed, I put Anti-Sieze on every bed bolt so they came out like butter. Anti seize most bolts on the truck, makes it easier later.
Those appear to be the plastic clips that are basically squeeze to release, but once the zip ties are gone they may just slide off. I'm not convinced you ever needed the clamshell/scissor release tool
Team TFI struggled with these clips a bit, I went through a mini saga on my '11; my part #'s won't help you but I'll link my thread anyhow:

line and the flared end goes past the fingers which are curved and once it gets past the curve it locks in/ bottoms out.
the fuel line tool basically slides between the hard line and the flex line pushing the metal
fingers away from the hard line flare end and flattening them out. At this point you can pul the soft like off the hard like as the fingers re basically unlocked to slow the flex like to slide off.
yeah plastic sip ties aren’t my choice to secure fuel like. I can understand. A in the middle of nowhere repair to get you to a repair shop or home
