I have a 2014 F150 XLT 5.0, heard a random noise in my blower motor - got louder when I turned up the fan and quieter when I turned it down. I thought that my blower motor was going out or that the cage separated so I ordered a new one. Yesterday, I dropped down the blower motor and ended up finding that there was a plastic part inside of the cage that must have been hitting the fins on the cage making the noise. Now I need to figure out where this part came from. Can anyone help me out? I have attached a few pictures of the plastic piece I found. Thanks much!
It looks like it should be on the fan spindle, or it's part of the blend door and landed in the fan assembly.
Thank you! From what I have found so far, it looks like it is from the Recirc/Fresh Air Intake Door - which from everything I've seen doesn't look fun to replace!
Yep fresh air intake door and yeah it's a bit of a challenge to replace, dash has to come partially out to get at it. If you don't care about bringing fresh air in, you can always wedge the door closed with a screw or something so that it always recirculates.

I wonder what went wrong to tear up that part? There shouldn't be that much torque involved in opening/closing that door.
Very common issue on 90s Explorers. The plastic at the top of the blend door would break. There was even an aftermarket blend door to replace it. Still an issue almost 20 years later
I just had the same thing happen to me... had a noise that sounded like a helicopter was hovering over my truck, then realized it was the blower motor. Took it out and found exactly the same piece in the squirrel cage.
So.... someone had sent me this diagram, and it would seem the fresh air/recirc door is in part #9? Doesn't look like any fun to get to it...

Your suggestion is what I did with my '02 Explorer. It is SAD to realize Ford still uses this same POS design even as late as 2014.
