I've been a long time lurker as I've been searching for my dream truck for 3+ years. This weekend I found it and I go and close the deal tomorrow. A 1965 F100 shortbed. I'll post photos when I bring it home and you'll see why I waited.
One minor issue - I accidentally misspelled my login name and there is no way for me to change it. I don't seem to be able to email or message the moderators so if one sees this, please let me know how to change it to the correct mhackney
Welcome to FTE. I love the 65/66 short box trucks.
In all probability, since you only have one post, it would be faster, easier and less troublesome, to just go ahead and create another identity. After that, don't forget to join you Massachusetts state chapter,
I actually tried to do that but the forum recognized that my email address was already used and would not let me. That's why I posted for help!
In this account, change the email address to another one that you have access to. Then you can create a new account attached to the desired email account.
Thanks @CathedralCab! That did the trick and this is my new account. I'll see if I can deactivate the old one as I'll only use this one moving forward.
I'm 4 hours away from closing the deal and giddy with excitement!
Ok, I closed the deal on the 65 F100. Here is a photo. It is an unmolested extremely solid rig. The wheels were replaced as the originals were Swiss cheese but the white moon caps with red Ford logo come with it and they are perfect. The windshield was replaced due to cracks but all other glass is original. The seat cover was replaced but with smooth vinyl and a little lighter green than the original. Now that I see it with the turquoise, it isn't so bad.
The body has zero rust, no bondo, and is solid. All the suspect areas are solid. There is a little rust through in the bed near the cab that the original owner (who owned it for 50 years, then the second owner had it for 5 and now me) said came because his wife put a rug back on the bed and it held in the water (truck originated in Arkansas). You can see where the rug was lain. Just a really amazingly solid and well preserved vehicle.
I am going to have a lot of research and tons of questions. But really the only things needing attention are:
The turn signal does not reset to off but he has the part but no wheel puller to replace it - I have a puller.
The single sun visor flops down. I'm 6'2" so this is annoying and will have to be addressed.
I activated the parking brake and it released smoothly but I did not test that it actually held the vehicle (my bad, it was on my pre purchase checklist but I overlooked it)
the rear bumper was installed by the original dealer for the original owner to provide a tow hitch. It is actually pretty cool with the dealer's name in large faded red embossed letters. But, the license plate light and holder location are eclipsed by the bumper and I'm sure that won't fly in MA so I'll likely have to address it.
Otherwise, the second owner put 1800 miles on it in 5 years, replaced hard and soft brake lines and rebuilt all cylinders (master is original), new alternator, rebuilt carburetor, some minor electrical stuff, new windshield and gasket as mentioned above, the seat cover, new modern radiator (original leaks but will come with it) and hoses, and new clutch and throwout bearing.
The original owner's manual is included but falling apart. There is no spare or jack but the mount is there in the bed.
