I pulled the sensors and drove it and it performed much better so I then pulled the cat and it's running good enough that I can drive it but it's still lacking power. It doesn't seem like it's transferring power from the motor to the tranny properly though. The check engine light isn't on so I'm not sure if it would throw a code without it. I looked inside the cat and didn't see anything clogged. Both honeycombs were intact at both ends. While under the truck I noticed some fluid coming from the bell housing area and made me wonder if this could be a torque converter problem?
Codes can be stored even without the CEL being on.
If the converters are OK but it’s still running better without the sensors, a restriction further downstream of the converters is indicated. This could be a 3rd converter (if equipped), the muffler, or a sharp bend in the tail pipe.
If the fluid you see coming from the bell housing is red, it’s ATF; however it’s much more common to have oil leaks in that area. It can be deceiving because oil leaks from higher up can run down and collect around the mating surfaces of the engine and trans.
The rule of thumb for leaks is to look for the furthest point forward and the highest point up from there. If you don’t see anything forward of the oil pan sump, look for valve cover leaks as those are very common.
