Best oil for winter

What is the best oil for winter operations for a 7.3? As it is starting to freeze at night, my PSD is starting awfully hard when I am unable to plug it in (when I work a night shift or a 24 hour shift). I am not certain if one or both of the batteries is going bad or the oil is too thick, maybe both.

Thanks

Try 5W-40. all of the major oil companies make a synthetic "fleet" oil. Rotella T Synthetic is available at Walmart.

I was so surprised when I recently did a "Freezer" test on the Wally World Full Synthetic 5W-30. It was as thick as the dino Havoline 5w-30 that was in the freezer next to it. I thought that because it was "Synthetic", it would remain thinner. Not the case. OF course this was not a scientific experiment, but it was really interesting...

I think I will continue to use the dino....

I also did a "freezer test" recently just for giggles at 0F.

10W-30 Pennzoil "Purebase" flowed best. So much for those who still insist that "it has wax in it".

10W-40 Castrol Syntec was next, almost as good as the dino Pennzoil, but still second place.

15W-40 Chevron Delo 400, almost as good as Syntec at 0F, you may have to get colder to see much difference.

30 Coastal non-detergent, solid rubber with white streaks of wax.

Conclusion, Group II dino is more than adequate for single digit temperatures.
