spin on oil filter??
I currently have 2 y block engines, a 59 in my truck and a parts engine. the parts engine had a spin on adapter which I removed about six months ago. ?? is do I use the old cartridge filter assembly for the gasket behind the plate, and does the slit in the plate go on top??

Yes to both. If the old gasket is deformed or showing age cracks get a new one even tho it means buying a filter.
DO NOT, repeat after me, DO NOT use a Fram filter.
I lost 15 lbs pressure and thought I was losing the engine before I heard others Fram horror stories.
Went back to Motorcraft and Hastings real fas.
BTW, Im often not around the PC on weekends.
