I was looking for the cord to plug my diesel in today because it is finally starting to get cold enough that I thought I would at least find the cord in case I needed to plug in one night. I can't find the cord. My question is whether all 6.0L come with an engine warmer or is it an option that you have to specify when you order the truck. Maybe it's just tucked away and I can't find the plug.
Thanks.... I know this might have been a stupid question.
The engine block warmer is an option that is more or less a standard item. Meaning, a dealer usually orders the truck with the warmer when they place the order with the factory. On the 7.3L diesel, the plug is on the driver's side, front bumper. On the 6.0L the plug is on the passenger's side, front bumper. Usually in-between the tow hook and fog light location. It's a real pain to get to because they zip tie that sucker down at the factory. Once you cut the zip tie, you can pull the plug out and you'll be in business.
Thanks everybody! I found the plug this morning when i went out to start the truck. My thoughts were to get an automatic timer like my low level lights have in my garden and set it to go off at 5 or 6 in the morning. It doesn't need more than two hours to warm everything up does it? Does the engine warmer pull a lot of energy? Just wondering if my electric bill is going to go up even more than it already does in the winter time!
Yup those block heaters are over 800 watts and take some real juice , some of my friends use a heavy duty timer....it was -15 degrees celsius here and the block heater even melts the snow on the hood...we also use a oil pan heater that straps on the bottom of the oil pan for when it gets -20 c or colder..have seen -60 c with wind chill factor.....seats are so cold you sit 4" higher.
As a Paramedic I need to roll on a moments notice from home so I use BOTH heaters..and cant use the timer.....
I live in California where temperatures typically don't drop below 10F. When is it necessary to use the heater? Will the engine just not start if it's too cold?
For California....just let the glow plug indicator go out..may take 1 second longer to do so and then fire up your truck..no problems and @ 42 f wont see any difference

Only 800 watts!?! My wife's hair drier uses more power then that. Actually I think the power usage is closer to 1,200 watt, still less then my wife's hair drier.
