Anybody add an aux fan to their condenser?

105 today and it's only going to get hotter. AC is ok until the fan clutch kicks in. then it's ICE cold.

Anybody hookup a auxiliary fan on the condenser? if so, what brand/model and how did you hook it up?

What truck are you talking about? Your signature shows an 08 6.4L, that truck has a dual high side pressure switch, when the high side pressure gets over ~250-260psi the pcm will command the cooling fan on to help cool the ac condenser.

Your profile shows a 97, that truck would benefit from a pusher fan on the condenser, that year system will run till the high side reaches ~450psi then open the clutch till the pressure drops down to ~260psi then allow the clutch to turn on again.

@ifrythings it's the 08 F350 with 6.4.

When you say the cooling fan. I'm guessing you're referring to the fan clutch on the engine. Correct?

if you want a E fan go look for a dual speed one from a Lincoln Mark 8. Those things can move some air. You’ll most likely need to make your own bracket to mount it but you can make it a pusher fan.

Btw I never had my clutch fan kick in and it’s 107 at my house today. Assuming your coolant levels are topped off and you changed the coolant at some point of ownership?

another thing to do is to shut off the coolant lines going to the heater core. Get a electronically controlled heater core block off. That’s gonna keep the hot coolant out of the heater core. If yiu have a gas car get a vacuum operated one

Just had the cooling system flushed and replaced the fan clutch.

Any advice on how to wire it up?

wire it up through a relay. Probably 30 amp. How do you want it to come on? Temp controlled, manual or key on comes on?

another good air mover is one off a Hyundai Santa Fe or Kia Sorento. Those things have huge fans also

I was hoping I could connect it to the AC compressor or something similar so that when it gets power the fan kicks on

What you mean like hook up the fan straight to the compressor? No you don’t wanna do that.
Just wire it up as a key on accessory. I wood use a relay to send power through to the fan itself. Dont use the on switch as the connection to the fan main power feed.

no. I was referring to tapping the power from the compressor to activate a relay.

Just need to figure out where to get power from.

you need to find the wire that switches the compressor on at the compressor. It’s either gonna be a positive or negative switch leg so you’ll need to wire the relay the same way. Got a volt meter?

I do. I'll get a couple of pig-tails and build a Y connector off that.

Thanks for letting me bounce ideas off you

dude make sure you use a heavy duty relay for the fan power. You’ll need at minimum most likely 10 ga automotive wire . Fans pull a lot of amps on start up.
let me know how your truck is set up and I can tell you how to wire up the relay.

So I'm thinking of this fan
Amazon Amazon

90W so 7.5A

for the relay
Amazon Amazon

Connectors ( i believe these are the correct ones)
MOTORCRAFT WPT173 {1U2J14B475AJA, 1U2Z14S411AJA, 1U2Z*14S411*AJA} Info
MOTORCRAFT WPT984 {3U2Z14S411BXAB, 3U2Z*14S411*BXAB} Backlit Scuff Plate (Lamps) Connector Info

I think for this application I can use 10
G wire with a 10A inline fuse.

When you say "let me know how your truck is set up", what do you mean? It's an 08 F350 6.4 D

On the AC high pressure switch, there is a green/blue wire that gets grounded when the discharge pressure goes above ~250psi, you could hook your relay coil ground to that wire so when the pressure goes high enough it will automatically turn on your fan.

You can’t use a 10A fuse for that fan, it needs to be 3-4 times large so it doesn’t blow when the fan try’s to start up. The link you posted shows a 30-40a fuse for the feed power to the fan.
