I just purchased a 6.0 excursion with 170K miles. It has been sitting undriven for 4 years. I am stumped on an issue it is having. The engine just cuts out while driving. Most of the time while it is going into idle but sometimes just cruising on a flat road. I can drop it into neutral and will start right back up. It does not always trip an error, but sometimes I get crank shaft and camshaft position errors. Below is what I have done, any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
New batteries
Oil change
new filters
blue spring kit
EGR clean
water separator drain
cleaned both ground points on frame
running hot shot in fuel
I do have Torque running on it. If there is any pids I should keep my eye on.
Your cam and crank sensors must be synced at all times, and this is a classic symptom of them coming unsynced.
dieseltech Ron had a great video about this issue on the Tube.
In addition to what Nicmike said, you may have a fuel pump relay issue if those 2 sensors do not correct the issue. I remember when some were new that Ford had to replace1 or both of those sensors. The biggest symptom was just sitting at say a light or stop sign and they'd just cut off.
Since they threw codes, you know you have those issues. A fuel relay or fuel pump won't trip a code as they did not have sensors to monitor them back in the past. Good luck!
I have a 2003 V-10 Excursion. Owned it since 2005. I'm responding to the "stalling"thread. I just went through this, took 3 months for my mechanic to find and fix, actually his receptionist gave him the fix. It's your electrical panel board located just infront of your left knee. The board (circuit) went bad that supplied electricity to the fuel pump, my mechanic first replaced my fuel pump ($1300) but the problem persisted. Once the board was replaced my problem was taken care of, no more stalling.

Thanks a million!
Make sure your FICM is healthy. Sometimes the logic board on the FICM goes bad and the truck will run for a little while, but then stall out because it lost FICM sync. An easy way to do this is to turn the key to the first position 10 times. With a healthy logic board, the injectors will buzz every time. If you don't hear the injectors buzz, you're losing sync and may need to check the cam position sensor and wiring.
Looking at your profile yours is an 03. Due to the routing of the harness, the 2003 and 2004 trucks often have wiring issues when it comes to the Cam Position sensor. You may need to solder a new pigtail on in addition to replacing the sensor itself for good measure. The sensor and pigtail are cheap so worse case you saved yourself a headache down the road.
Hey guys - It was the IPR screen. Pulled out the IPR and the screen was a mess. Cleaned it all up and replaced screen and it is running like a champ. BTW - getting to the IPR is nightmare lol.
