First powerstroke
I just bought my first powerstroke I've noticed that it has a egr valve blocker plate but other than that it's bone stock even stock head bolts with 250k... What should I keep my eyes on continuing on with it?
The longer answer: You should really head over to the 6.0 forum and do some reading, they'll have a TON of information on that engine.
As a prior owner of TWO 6.0's, I personally wouldn't hesitate to buy another one if the price was right and I could really look it over and found it to be in good shape. Then again I know the pitfalls of the engine, the warning signs to look for, and I'm mechanically inclined so I can fix most things that might possibly go wrong with it.
Since it has an EGR blockoff plate, a previous owner has obviously had some issues in the past. How well they were fixed is debatable unless they also provided you with any and all maintenance records (something I keep a log of for all my vehicles).
If you are mechanically inclined and are willing to potentially spend a LOT of money to make it reliable (depending on how it runs now), it can be a good, trustworthy motor. If you're not mechanically inclined and/or are expecting it to be completely trouble-free forever...Yeah you will want to unload that truck and get something else. Like maybe a Cummins or a gasser.
