I am pulling the front rotors off of my 89 F-150 4x4 and I can't seem to get them all of the way off. I pulled the manual locker out, but it still won't come off. I don't see a wheel bearing nut to remove, but just a weird hex shaped ring recessed into the hub where the axle end is still protruding through. What is my next step? Any help would be totally appreciated.
use the search feature. i think this has come up a few times. but to get you started, there is a socket they make to get that nut off. then i belive there is a snap ring behind that. for more info use the search button.
your in for a treat after taken the exterior off youll see all the springs plastic junk don't mix them up, there is a c-clip inside the hub wall holding back a spacer as well as a ruibber o ring, may be disinagrated locking nut and spacer than a hub nut very large. that c-clip is well hidden covered by grease, small sharp knife and a pair of pliers to help.
There is also a castle nut that you'll need to remove. You'll need to get a "spanner socket" for a Dana 44 front end. Most auto stores have that one or have one you can borrow. You'll also want an impact of some sort(either electric or pnuematic). Once you get the outer castle nut off, there is a special washer that holds the next castle nut on. You might need some dental pics or something like that to remove it. It is often covered with grease, etc. Then, remove the next castle nut and the hub/rotor assembly should come off.
