Numbers matching?
Can someone explain what 'numbers matching' means in a auto/truck for sale ad means? I have been given several answers to this question.

It's a largely overused term that in many cases really doesn't mean too much. For decades prior to federal requirements, GM stamped the serial number of the car on engines, transmissions, and various other parts of the car. If these parts have never been swapped out, which was routinely done when parts wore out, especially engines and transmissions, all of the components would still be in the car with matching numbers to the chassis serial number, or VIN, as it's referred to today. The fact that so many cars have had engine swaps done over the years tends to make many cars not "number matching", so it's in the minds of some people that a car with numbers matching is more valuable. For our trucks, which don't have numbers stamped on anything but the frame and a couple of removeable tags, it's largely irrelevant.

Just a FYI NONE, As far as I know, of our trucks will fall into the numbers matching category. You might be able to identify a Truck engine or transmission but there's nothing that I'm aware of that will identify them as the original factory pieces.
