Rear main seal question

I have a pretty bad oil leak. I pulled off the cover plate between motor and transmission. The flywheel and torque converter appear completely dry.

Does that indicate the rear main seal is OK and not leaking? I'm trying to pinpoint the leak. Seems like a head gasket or valve cover gasket on passenger side.
Top-end rebuild seems to be in order.

Try Lucas Engine Oil stop leak.
I drive a 94 E350 and use Lucas oil additive every time I change my oil. This stuff has done wonders for my engine. My ride will turn 300k this month and I only have a teardrop leak in the engine transmission seal.

I'll check it out. I have very very low oil pressure as well. I'm worried that the oil pump is toast.

I need to put a mechanical gauge on the engine and see what my actual oil pressure is. The gauge on the dash drops below the L once the engine is warm.

Your low oil pressure may be due to a faulty oil pressure sending unit. I had the same issue with my van. Oil pressure went back to normal after I change the sending unit. It is very very easy to change and the sensor is very cheap.

How about listing WHAT you're working on please? Year, engine & fuel type, chassis etc etc--different years might have different fixes!

Before I'd gunk up the inside of an engine with any sort of "stop leak" stuff I'd carefully clean the engine of any leaked oil to see where the leak originates. As far as the sending unit depending on the van year and whether the instrument cluster has a "real" OP gauge---if its just the "idiot light" type gauge changing the sending unit shouldn't affect what it shows---it'll be full on or full off.

I would definitely apply a oil pressure gauge in the sending unit port to see what you have currently.
