Fram Tough Gaurd. 20+ years of using them in over 30 different vehicles, never an issue.
Actually used a WIX in my BMW since its a cartridge type and could find it in Fram. Now that engine has rod bearing failure, but I dont blame the filter, its a known issue for that engine.

Oh boy, going to need the popcorn for this one! Personally, I won't run any filter on any vehicle I own that doesn't use synthetic or preferably microglass media. I won't get into brand wars, but I think it's pretty well-agreed upon that synthetic media is superior to standard/paper media.

Well whom ever agreed to synthetic is better than paper didn't ask me. I am not a fan of putting unknown, usually plastic material, to filter my oil. Who knows what the polymers will sweat and add to the chemistry of the oil. But that's just me and never having issue with paper or heard of anyone having issue with paper that is what I will stick with.

I used to run the orange Fram extra guard, but have since upgraded to Fram ultra synthetic and run synthetic oil even though I still change every 5,000 miles.

The reason I switched from the budget version is, Fram claims that the extra guard 'only' filters 95% of particles over 20 microns. They claim their tuff guard filters 99% of those particles and the ultra synthetic is "99%+" (whatever that means). Maybe it's all marketing ****, maybe not, but the ultra synthetics do have better media and higher quality internals compared to the extra guard.

In all fairness, I think most anything you can get will be just fine - even stuff like SuperTech or Amazon Basics would be just fine (even though I personally still can't bring myself to buy those brands).

LOL, well, I can't say I'm surprised hearing that from you, Tuna. Swearing by Fram oil filters is a sign... I wouldn't be surprised to also hear you argue that conventional oil is superior. You do you, brother.

I don't think the brand of filter or oil matters a whole lot as long as you stick to a name brand and change at the recommended intervals. A vast majority of it is all made by the same companies and rebranded for the different stores anyways.

I always use synthetic oil. But debating between motorcraft filter vs royal purple filter. Heard it's a cheap Amsoil filter
sorry for starting a fire storm

I just stick with what Ford thought was good enough to cover their engines. I use the recommended Motorcraft oil too. Not enough time left in my life to worry about it or try to outthink Ford engineers. How long you plan on keeping the truck? One of my cars I've owned for 49 years another one 47. Always Motorcraft filters, don't recall any problems with oil filters on either.

I agree. It's amazing how easy of a decision it is to just use the Motorcraft filter.

Thanks

Been using fram and conventional oil for the entire 248k miles. No ticking, all original and she purrs like a kitten. I always change the oil 3 - 5k miles. It doesn’t matter what you use, just take care of it.

I use synthetic oil 100%. I have no issues with conventional oil it just requires shorter oil change intervals.
I do 5k oil changes with conventional I would drop that to 3k. As for filtration I fell that if you need to filter stuff in the system then you already have issues no filter is going to fix.
Since you are a fan, wait till you see my 15k, 1000 mile road trip Amazon coils review.
