Cold running problem?
I just picked up a 89 f150 with a EFI 4.9. When I got it it did not run. It needed a fuel pump relay to get the pumps working and a coil. It runs now but when it is cold the idle jumps up and down. When I first start it it idles at about 1200 then after about 30 seconds the idle starts to fluctuate. It will go up a little and then down a little, getting worse if I let it idle. Eventually it will speed up to about 2500 and then drop enough to stall. It restarts and runs at about 1200 and the starts the whole thing over again. I have to keep my foot on the gas a little until it warms up a bit. Once it warms up it runs great with no signs of the problem at all.
There have been a few parts replaced by the previous owner. He replaced the TPS, IAC, Ignition module, and distributor pickup. He was trying to solve the no run problem by throwing parts at it.
The check engine light is not on and there are no codes in the computer. I am new to fuel injection and I need a little direction.
Any help?
Thanks - Mike
