OM606 Swap?
The OM60x engine family is a fantastic platform, i own a OM605.960 W202 and i love this engine, there are loads of performance parts to make a 600hp OM606, so... what about getting a F250/350 and swapping a OM606?
Reasons:
Here OM606s are really cheap, a friend of mine turbocharged his W124 OM606.910 non turbo and tossed a weak na rod, he got a complete OM606.962 (factory W210 turbo) for 1k dollars with 300k km in great shape
There are loads of performance crap available for those engines: intake systems, exhaust systems, turbos, inj. pumps, internals and you can get unbelievable torque and power for such small engine
MPG, they are really efficient engines
Blown up trucks are really cheap here (2k dollars for mechanically bad and body-wise good), nobody fixes them and sadly they get spared or scrapped very commonly
Why i think it'll fit:
Ford of Brazil built these trucks with a MWM Sprint 4.2 I6 chain driven SOHC 18v turbocharged and intercooled, i've seen that engine in a friend's brazilian F250, there are lots of space around the engine, and that engine is bigger, taller and wider than the OM606
The engine bay is massive
What should be done:
Hydroboost to free up space for the massive OM606 plenum
Rear sump oil pan
A good tranny
Custom rad and intercooler by the local radiator shop, maybe new ends on original parts will be good
Custom hoses and piping
Electronic system redesign (delete the PCM, ABS), standalone ECU for the EDC pump (Baldur DSL1)
Custom gauge cluster
Custom fuel system, delete the chassis fuel pump, maybe custom fuel tank pickup
Custom driveshaft
Has anyone done this on the 99-16 platform? What should be done aside from listed above?
Yes and with these mods i will lower the truck, monochromatic appearance, custom wheels, custom interior, yes, a sport truck
