Howdy. I got a 351c in my Galaxie and the PO installed an accel points eliminator kit. I’ve put 2k (mostly) trouble free miles on it in the month I’ve had it. Is the accel kit a good one? Are they reliable? Is there something better to use? My only complaint is that it starts kinda rough when cold. Thanks
The Accel kit is the same as a Mallory unilite. They work great till they don’t and then they don’t work at all. I ran one for 30k miles till I sold my truck and it ran great. Rough start when cold is probably not the distributor module causing it.
If your module dies you can use the Accel one or a Mallory one. They do need a ballast resistor or resistor wire cause they don’t like 12v and need less volts.
Agree with above... there is no mpg or power improvements with these..... well documented ao IMHO, I would keep either a spare module or a set of points/condensor in the glovebox just for not if, but when it happens.
i never used one of them, but i have used the pertronix unit.
actually i have installed around 100 pertronix units over the years.
what i do after install is open plug gap around 5thousands, and increase timing advance between 5 and 10 degrees.
each engine is different. some want more timing, some less. but the best setting after install is usually 7-8 degrees.
