Making progress on this project. Thanks in part to all of you, I found parts I was looking for, and solved (though I dont know how) the coil issue.
The next thing I am on is the reverse light switch?. I would not have thought that this early of a truck would be equipped with a reverse switch (based on my early mustangs) and I originally thought it was an aftermarket thing. However after further looking it is attached to the steering column that makes me think it's from the factory.
I have attached a couple (not so good) pics that shows what I am talking about.
Any way the switch is no good and I have had no luck finding one. Anyone have a source?
On another subject, the thermostat housing for a 223? Apparently Noah's ark is an easier find?
I put reverse lights in my truck. I used a toggle switch with a red cover. The switch illuminates when in the on position. That way I have a red light staring at me if I forget to turn it off.
My new 5speed transmission has a reverse light switch so I hooked up an extra fog light I had laying around, put it under the back bumper, ran a dual circuit and put a toggle switch in the cab so I could also use it as a work light/tailgater warning device. Definitely needed here in Southern California. It seems to get their attention and is much safer than a brake check or a no brake downshift..
I just toggle it a couple times, it is aimed low enough to not blind anyone but they usually take the hint.
