90 AOD tranny question

Hi, thanks in advance for checking this thread out.

I cannot go from Park or Reverse into OD. I can go into OD from D, and the OD does seem to be working. I assume this isn't the way it's supposed to work. My linkage down below is on its last legs, but it's still holding together. Would adjusting the TV cable have any effect on this, or does it sound like the tranny needs work?

Doesn't sound like the TV to me but it can't hurt to check. How loose is the linkage? How long has it been since you changed the fluid and filter?

Well, I bought the truck used and don't know when it last had a tranny fluid/filter change. The fluid looks okay, but I'll take another look at it. The linkage is pretty rough - rusty and loose - but it still seems to get me in and out of all the gears, except for straight into OD. I probably should have straightened out the linkage before posting.

I guess I was wondering, if I can go through the gear stops from underneath then maybe that would indicate that the linkage is just screwing things up from the shifter on down.

Hoping for a cheap fix-up
