I need to get a voltage reducer for my heater (6volt to 12volt) JC Whitney has 2 types:
For 12-volt systems using 6-volt accessories:
1. model with 6- and 8-amp terminals
2. one with 10- and 20-amp terminals
Which one should I get. This is a box type heater from a 53 F100.
My other alternative was to swap out the fan, but which fan should I use?
I was looking at getting one of those dashboard (cigarette lighter) fans from wally mart and alter it to fit the original one, but that may be a bit too much work and will it work....
Any suggestions, or should I throw in the towel and get the reducer....
The online fifty's part stores have the voltage reducer your looking for around $10. You have to be careful because there is a different voltage reducer that is used for the guages only.
Mine heater VR looks like a rotary switch on a piece of ceramic with a mounting clamp.
Tell your local auto parts guy what your doing and they will get you that will handle the load of a heater motor. I did that three years ago for my box fan and it works great. Just remember they get very hot, so mount in a safe spot.
Just last week I put a new 12 volt motor and two speed switch in. The new motor is a little longer and I had to cut out the bottom of the heater for it to fit but you can not see it unless you are laying on the floor. Also put in a cable operated heater valve. Works great. Bob
