Alternator/ charging system
Even a perfectly good new one (all new ones are not perfectly good however!) won't work if it's not getting the proper signals from the truck.
Your Green w/red wire at the alternator's 3-wire plug/connector should have 12v only when the key is in the ON/RUN position. If it does not, then nothing will "wake up" the alternator and tell it to charge when the engine is spinning it.
I don't know what will happen if the Yellow w/white wire gets broken or disconnected, but methinks the alternator would charge too much. But with zero sensing signal, rather than just a low voltage signal, maybe it just won't let the alternator work at all.
Maybe someone knows about that.
Another thing to check is the White w/black wire coming out of that same 3-wire connector. Is it plugged in to the side of the alternator? If so, is it done so correctly? Someone here, or on another forum not long ago had a no-charge condition and it turned out the stator wire, while stuck into the hole and apparently connected, had missed the small tang/blade and was not actually connected.
With all the in-and-out of new alternators you might want to check that the stator connector is solid.
This is assuming that your '95 has a 3G that is. I think with the 5.0 it could still be a 2G? I can't remember the year that they all were updated to the 3G but I know some combinations were late to the party.
Got a pic of your alternator, or a part number you can share?
Paul
