only thing i know is infront of the engine above the crank/cam for sure i have only fooled with them on front wheel V6 i will lok see what i can find out
well looks like the put them on diesel engines but not gas. maybe some more ford experienced peeps on the forum can clarify if they came on the gas engines for your van
hey im a little confused bobsvan. i reread your first post and you said this: I have an E-150 van with a 351 V-8 Engine and Fuel Injectors. but then later on you say you hear popping sounds coming from the carb? which is it? do you have a carb or fuel injection? if its a 1991 i would guess it has fuel injection with no carb
There are fuel injectors, but there is also something that has two holes with things on hinges in them. The lever for the gas pedal is on top of it. Two big hoses that go to the air cleaner fasten over the holes with hose clamps. I thought it was a caberartor. My Haynes manual is at my gallery and I'm home now so I can't look up the names for some of this stuff. I'm going to ride my bicycle over there soon so I'll be able to put names to some of these things. Is it possible that it has both a carberator and fuel injectors? I will be working over there tonight. On some art and on the van. I'l try to give you better answers from my PC over there. I'm in Florida (EST). Thanks bourbon and 95blackF-250 for taking the time to try to help. Bob bobsvan
LOL no it wont' have both its called throttlebody injection looks similar to a carburator instead of having injectors for each cylinder i figured a 91 would have something like multiport instead of TBI
um.......i really really really think bobsvan has the multiport electronic fuel injection on his truck. from the way he described the throttle body it sounds just like my 351W in my 1988. the part with the two big holes and the butterfly valve thats connected to the air inlet by way of two big rubber tubes is called the throttle body. when ford first came out with fuel injection they mounted a couple of fuel injectors over something that looked like a carb and they called it central fuel injection or CFI which was a throttle body type of fuel injection, like 95blackf150 was talking about. if you have 8 fuel injectors that are connected by a metal tube on top of the lower intake then you have multipoint electronic fuel injection. a carburator will only be called a carburator if it itself mixes gas with air by way of air pressure.
you should know that on our trucks with multipoint fuel injection the fuel pressure is a LOT higher than on an old car that has a carb. on older vehicles with a carb the pressure might only be around 5 to 7 psi. with fuel injection its closer to 45psi. so keep safety in mind.
