Has anyone here had long-term experience with XRF or Kryptonite parts? Do they live up to the hype? I drive an average of 1100 miles per week, and I need to do all Ball joints and tie rods, don't want to do them again anytime soon!!
If you're looking for low cost ball joints, XRF I hear are pretty good, Moog is even cheaper yet although quality is suspect. That being said,, you're doing almost 60K a year. Ball Joint life depending on road conditions weight, and what kind of traffic, should last between 75K to 150K miles, It's obviously very important for top quality Ball joints if you're doing 1100 miles a week. You might want to consider Carli or Dynatrac.
Been using MOOG parts for decades with no complaints, but also consider how heavy that front end is and the amount of stress these parts are under with every bump. Even the best most expensive parts will fail.
Dynetrac makes HD BJ's that are rebuildable in the truck. They're Big $$$ up front, but with the miles you're doing..it might pay off if you keep the truck long enough to do a couple rebuilds, maybe?
I had always used Moog in the past and I decided to use those on my Excursion but I was not happy with the outcome. This was done about 10 years ago and if I recall they took awhile to break-in. I remember going back and doing a re-torque of the upper and lower ball joints and also making lots of left and right turns to break them in. At the time the XRF ball joints were just getting popular. I am going to do ball joints on my new project truck but this time I am going to do the XRF's.
Does anyone know if we can source those from a sponsor on the site? I want to get the entire package for a full font end rebuild. Ebay seems to be the place they show up on google searches.

I decided to try XRF out, the next time around I will probably get the rebuildable Dynatrac ball joints but this time that was a bit too big of a pill to swallow. Xrf has a 1 million mile warranty, we will see about that.
here's the website with the best price on a full 10 piece front end kit that I can find.
@SgtNick_PSD what were you previously running? How much are you getting out of Ford or Spicer ball joints?
Did you also change tie rods as the title of the post indicates? What brand did you go with?
I couldn't tell you what are on it currently. The same ones that were on it when I bought it, 10,000 miles ago.
The title of my post meant I was asking about recommendations for the parts. I've been looking at xrf and I decided to buy the 10 piece front end set from maximumsuspension.com, and we'll see how they go. I drive 50-60k miles per year so next time around I'll get the Rebuildable dynatrac ones, but that was too big a pill to swallow at the moment. I've got other issues that are being attended to right now also...
I also ordered the xrf’s. I hope they come in this week so I can install them. I have a bit more work as I am going to bring my truck back to stock height. This means a pitman arm, new leaf springs, sway bar links and track bar bracket. Once all that is installed I can take her for a test ride.

Moog was always a good choice for years, but now I hear they aren't anymore. I am in the middle of replacing everything on the front with Moog parts too. I used them in my 99 F350 Dually and they held up well. Since it is not a daily driver but more a heavy hauler for towing or getting heavy things the F150 can't, they should last me as long as I own it.
I put Moog ball joints on my old van ~7 years ago because of their awesome reputation and was incredibly disappointed. They didn't even last 3 years! Moog is junk in my book these days and I certainly won't buy any more Moog products. Can't speak for any of the other brands, but I would encourage you to stay on top of your greasing intervals if you have grease-able joints. Regular greasing even with cheap grease is far better than not greasing often enough with top shelf grease!
I ended up getting them via ebay which I hope wasn't a mistake. Long story short, I was away with very very bad internet and wanted to order them so they would be on their way while I was away. Ebay made it easier. I am hoping to do it this weekend but need to wait for the parts.
