E4OD center support gap/clearance?

Hi all, I'm pulling my hair out trying to figure this out. I'm rebuilding my 95 e4od and when I go to install the center support there's a gap between it and the ledge in the case of about .011", this seems wrong to me. I've pulled it apart about 5 times now thinking I assembled something wrong but everything seems in order. And yes I have the atsg manual and update book, I've rebuilt a few of these but that was 10+ years ago and things are a bit foggy. I had machined it for the sonnax case saver snap ring and it's dead on at 1.060" with the ring, never the less I got another stock center support and same problem. I've assembled everything on the bench (out of the case) and everything is riding on the bearings/washers. Am I wrong in thinking the center support should contact the case and also for there to be a bit of clearance between the center support and the drums below it? If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated, I've been googling for days and can't find an answer.
