5800kms. Used over a liter . Been towing 12 to 20k daily for the past 4000km. Had first oil change at 4500km.Talked to head mechanic at my dealer. I will be dropping it off when my 2nd truck arrives in about 2 weeks. Another 7.3. Hoping it stops using oil. My 6.2 used about half a liter every 5000km since it was new. Now has 300 000km . Any thoughts?
Could be something about your break-in strategy? Not blaming but maybe it is something to think about? I've never had a Ford truck that used oil. Maybe a strategy change for the new truck? Just wondering . . . . .
My break in was this. No trailer pulling till about 1400km. Till then I drove fairly regular with the exception of varying revs. No highway droning in 10th . Shifted manually quite a lot. From 1400 to 2000kms pulled 6000 lbs . From 2000km till now truck has pulled 12 to 20 000 lbs always. Never empty.
Mine has not used any and I am coming up on 30k miles. First change at 2500, then 5000, then 10,000, 15,000, 20,000 and today or tomorrow at 29k. I checked before leaving on a 5500 mile road trip, didn't use any. Almost 10k on this change and it is still full.
From new it hit the highway for the 1300 mile trip home. Never did any special break in, just drove it. It did an 800 mile heavy haul after the 2500 mile change, never used any oil. I switched to Mobil 1 Truck and SUV formula at 2500 miles, used the same since.
My 6.2 never used oil either and it was run hard and put away wet more often than not. Even at 200k miles it doesn't use any oil.
I am not sure they will do anything for you. That is about a quart per 3500 miles in church of england which I do not think qualifies as "excessive" for a warranty claim. Most of the time it has to be going through at least 3 times that much to get any action. Hauling heavy like that regularly could be the cause but disappointing for sure on a new truck supposedly built for it.
The "why" might just be luck of the draw. I have not seen reports of excessive consumption on the 7.3's

The 5.0 V8's with DI trucks had/have a problem with consuming oil but it's fairly widespread and well known.
It was either the 7,3 gasser or the 6.7 diesel that had issues with the front crank seal. Mechanics would replace the seal and it still leaked, then they figured out the front covers were slightly off, not holding the seal precisely where it should be, so then they were replacing seals and covers.

Just did my first oil change in my 24 7.3 at 1300. Didn’t find it to be all that messy. The oil was a quart lite as I dump the used oil into the jugs that I use to fill it and there was only seven. I put 8.5 back in.
my 6.2 in my e350 van shoots oil clear to the drivers side tire lol.

What did the oil level show on the dipstick before you drained it?
