what i did with my 77 f 100 is called centech you tell them what you have and what you want and they will make the whole harness for you using fords specs it is a head light to tail light job so i would give them a call or look them up on the net at www.centechwire.com

I tried using painless for my '79 and decided to just can it and found a very nice harness out of a '78 shortbed that had only one splice in it and that was going up to the drivers side headlight. I found that out in California when I lived out there last year. I'll call the guy and see what he has.

hey bruin52, I am interested to know why you decided to can the painless kit. I am thinking about getting one myself to rewire my 78. I have heard good and bad about the painless kits.

I'm not saying that Painless has a bad product or is a bad company, they make some great kits. However, the one for the '78-'79 is a UNIVERSAL kit, meaning that sure everything is labeled but there are no connectors on the wires. You have to switch the connectors over and end up having all this leftover stuff that the truck didn't have and it was just a big hassel, it's a lot quicker and cheaper to just get a good used one. Granted it'll take longer to locate, but I got mine for about $100 and was in very good shape. I should be getting my truck shipped back to me in a couple of months and I'll have time to put it in.

hey like i said i just got my wiring harness it cost me 300 dollars but it is custom made for your vehicle i was going to use the painless wiring to but i decided to go for the centech one instead it has easy to follow instructions and comes with a lot of new stuff (ie. wiper control, dim control, etc.) so i still say not to count out a new wiring harness. it could be easier and quickier in the ling run. oh the kit is a headlight to tail light job and every thing in the middle. so take it for what it is worth also here is a site that i like to browse through once in a while
