Can I bore the 5.0 head with 7/16 studs out to accept the 1/2 studs for a 5.8? I see a lot of 5.0 heads for sale on e-bay and have also spotted some potential ones at the PickNpull.
I have the Sterling rear end and a big front axle so who knows, what are my options and how can I tell them apart?
Tranny is 4 speed automatic with overdrive
That's wild, were the studs different or just the bores?
Did you change your cam when you swapped heads?
No, on the donor 5.0 the head bolts were both sides 7/16. Just one head was drilled for 1/2. (I'm sure they had a few left over heads for 5.8 Lightings in 96)
There were no additional washers or spacers to center the 7/16 bolts on the ones drilled 1/2
The "locating dowels" on a SBF block & heads are the same & will pass the larger bolt/stud.
I used a very mild Comp cams 512 & Crane "Ford Racing Cobra" bolt down 1.7 rockers for a tad additional lift.
The axles have nothing to do with what transmission is in the truck. Both the ‘87 and ‘94 Broncos had a 5.0L engine, Dana 44 front axle and Ford 8.8 rear axle. The ‘87 had a C6 while the ‘94 had an E4OD. What is the transmission code on the driver’s side “B” pillar? Look under the truck. With the exception of the upper left picture which is not applicable for a full size truck, does the transmission pan look like one of these?

Most likely to be an E4OD. What is the trans code on the decal on the drivers door pillar? Code E = E4OD.
