Hello all, been a long time since I've been here.
I Have a 1999 f150, 4x4, V6 auto. XL version.
Engine quit while I was driving to work, had it towed to the Ford dealer. They told me it needs a computer and no longer supported by Ford. I can get an aftermarket computer and change it no problem, my question is what about the pats ignition key? Is this something I can program myself or do I have to take it to Ford? I've been reading a lot about this system but can't find the information I'm looking for. Can I just program my original key to the new computer ?
I would also add that the truck only has 90,000 miles on it I've had it for 4 years. It was my dad's garage queen before he died.
Thanks
Since you will be getting an aftermarket computer that would be a good question for the maker/seller of that product. They should be able to tell you exactly the steps necessary to use their product successfully.
Any processor you get will need to be programmed to your truck
It might start and run if you are lucky but lights galore
It's the PATS and the GEM that haver to jive with the ecm.
Should be a quick easy thing for Ford to do
I would take it back to them and say hey replace this processor with this one I got
That way they will have their scan tool ready and if it needs re flashed (which it will) then they can do it right then and only charge you for that and say 4 tenths to replace the ecm
Sucks no support for your 99 already
The trouble with that in my area, the V6 is pretty rare. I would imagine there's used one's somewhere on the internet, but it's a big enough gamble to buy an aftermarket computer. And then, I'm still wondering what caused it to start with.
