PATS won’t let me start my excursion. I have tried the wait until the theft light stops and remove key for 30 seconds reset option a dozen times on two different days. The key in driver door reset also. I have left it with batteries disconnected for 48 hours. I got the correct OBD dongle yesterday and show connection with the dongle but FORScan can’t communicate
A few weeks ago same issue with my main key which is a generic at the grocery store. My back up also a generic which my mechanic was only able to work 50% of the time- but it worked that time.
Now I am at my family’s ranch probably 30 miles from a dealer, and neither keys are recognized. And the phone internet is super slow
This time I believe there are more relays clicking in the dash and under the hood
Would a locksmith be able to reset the system? I was pretty angry when I couldn’t get FORScan to connect
With my present luck I am hesitant to pull the ecm and ship it anywhere. I suspect the ecm was replaced, my mechanics scanner showed California emissions on a truck delivered to a dealer in Freeport Texas. If I swapped in an ecm from a Superduty 7.3 f250/350 of similar vintage from the chart would it just ignore the PATS hardware? Present ECM is an
EBM2
thanks in advance
As summer begins wondering how I bought another black truck

The light will not stop blinking...it will slow down on the flashing for the reset. You may have to insert the key for 10-15 minutes and then turn in the on position for another 2-3 minutes to learn and/or undo what you've done as described here: https://www.truckofmine.com/ford-pat...-how-to-guide/
I get that error sometimes when I connect FORScan wrong. I have to have the USB/OBD cord connected to the laptop and the OBD port, turn the key to run, then I start FORScan and it connects. That is if your PATS is not preventing the ignition power to come on. I've never experienced a PATS lockout so I don't know. You should have a status light on your OBD connector? showing the port has power?
Never seen a low battery trigger the PATS light...
i don’t know what triggers the PATs light to blink when the PATs isn’t actually activated but they can and do.
the low battery causes a crank no stark on the 7.3 because the starter doesn’t spin the motor fast enough to get the injectors to fire. Or if low enough voltage you just get a solenoid click like he mentions, that is what made me consider it.
I run an Edge Evolution CTS2 on my 2001 7.3 EX and have to reset the PATS every time I change mode from tow to performance. It's annoying but only way I can get it to work.
Ignoring the blinking light, What did you do before the no start that leads you to believe it is a PATS issue ?
using a digital multi meter, disconnect the positive battery interconnect and check voltage of each battery separately.
my guess is you have 1 battery below 12.6v
It turns out the driver side was 11.@@ volts. Charged both up to 13 and started fine. Driver side was down to 10 again today
when I started trouble shooting last Tuesday both my cheap meters I leave here were dead. I put each battery separately on my charger and it immediately went to charge complete.
