1958 ford f600 axle code help
F60 = F600, 17,000 lbs GVWR
D = 292 4V HD Y-block V8, 158 net HP @ 3600 RPM. ( note this conflicts the HP number on the tag--the 272 4V HD for '57-'58 was rated at 149, looks like a typo...)
8 = Model year 1958
E = Mahwah Assembly Plant
39493 = Serial Number
172 = 172 inch wheelbase
R = Red
05 F = Looks like June 5, 1958 build date.
F = Warner model T98A four speed transmission, synchro in 2-3-4.
53 = Two speed rear axle, almost certainly Eaton, 15,000 lbs capacity, 5.83/8.11 ratios. (ratio is stamped above pinion, other info on the carrier and the driver side front of the housing)
No front axle, either obscured by the rivet or not there. Probably no more than 5,000 lb capacity,
17000 = 17,000 lbs GVWR
1494 3600 = looks like a typo for certified Net HP, see above
DSO not shown. Maybe another typo, they had to send it somewhere to sell it!
We had a red '58 292 4v, 4 speed/2 speed axle on the farm, so it's like old home week!
Beware widowmaker wheels, and go through your brakes but beware there are no new drums to be had.
