Removing Bird's Nest?

Got a bit of an on-going problem with a bird of some sort trying to build a nest on my front porch light fixture. I remove it about once a day, have sprayed the fixture with household ammonia and even that doesn't deter it's building.

Anyone have any easily applied fairly safe chemicals I might use to discourage this sort of thing?

TIA

I've successfully used bright strips of plastic tacked or nailed into place...the motion keep the birds at bay. I used to have problems with woodpeckers drilling into the wood trim on my condo...had it repaired...no issues since. I also did this around my garage door opener...after the eggs hatched and the little birdies were old enough to fly away.

I use peppermint oil and water mixed in a spray bottle and spray my entire front porch. I do it to deter spiders and mud daubers from building nests, works great. 10 drops in a 32oz bottle

Haven't had any birds trying to nest there either. Dunno if it works on birds but it's worth a shot and at the worst it'll make your entry way smell good

I have the same problem with them on a backyard gazebo, they build a nest over the ceiling fan. I put a small cardboard box over top the area with a peppermint soaked rag. Leave it for about a week & then it's safe to remove. Good luck!

In my old house we had birds build nests every year, and they'd build them just about everywhere. We just accepted it as part of the landscape.

Also been known to work to deter rodents from chewing your vehicle's wiring.

On a side note its utterly fascinating what sorts of search results come up when looking for "peppermint oil". I've never seen so many links and ads to "sexual aids/lubricants"---surely that's an algorithm issue? (I did bookmark that search page for the girlfriend---she' slightly twisted! )

So looking at the suggestions here it seems there are quite a few critter repellants some of which may help with my bird nesting issue. I'd love to just let it be but they're trying to next in my front door's path which isn't to my liking. I'd much rather dissuade them than do any harm---they're just that persistent.

Should I find anything effective I'll be glad to post it here----the repellant that is, not the "marital aids"!

Thanks all!

You either need a pet snake that likes to hang around the porch or a pet Owl....

Ironically, I have no plans to pet a snake or an owl!

That's because of your past web viewing, cookies are stored that create short cuts to previously viewed products or associated items. We know what you've been up to LOL. But seriously search it on amazon.

Amazon links don't seem to be working right now.

i have found thumbtacks or some other pointed things glued to the spot will keep them from building nests. when they try to land the pointed whatever sticks them in the feet and they then leave.

Hmmm---I'll have to check with the girlfriend if she's been using MY computer to hunt for such things----huge possibility.

I have found a few things that look promising through garden centers and of course Lowe's, Home Depot etc etc.

These damn bird are quite persistent--every time I remove their nesting materials and douse the lamp housing with ammonia they're back the next day without fail.

Well hell, I don't know if it's this website or Amazon but every time I post a link to the oil on Amazon it triggers an antivirus alert as a malicious webpage. Very odd.

This stuff.
