2wd Lift

I just purchased my first Excursion and love it so far. It has the 7.3 PSD with 175,000 miles and unfortunately it is a 2WD. I can not find information about lift kits for it and really want it 2"-4" taller to fit bigger tires on it. Would coil springs from an F250 work or do I need to have them custom made? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I looked high and wide and couldn’t find anything. I even bought a set of plastic donuts thinking I could somehow cut them to fit. In the world of “lifts,” we 2 WD people are forgotten.
I was able to get 1 1/4” height increase in the front by installing Z codes.
I got about 2” of lift in the rear by using ATS B codes along with my already owned RAS.
It is taller, but the best part is: they are F-350 springs and really help make the Ex a stable platform.
Good luck with your build.

So i have a 2WD that is lifted, there is really only one option to go with if you want it to work properly, and thats the Pro-Comp 6 inch lift, there is no kit that lifts it less, and the little 2-2.5 inch kits that use the spring bucket spacers will ruin your steering and alignment.

mine drove weird for about 2-3 months afterwards, but that was because the new coil springs needed to settle, which they have now and it drives good.

The procomp 6 inch kit for 2WD does NOT utilize blocks, it is an all spring lift front and rear, and it also greatly improved my towing as the rear springs seem to sag a lot less than the old factory springs, not sure what the spring rate is, but with my 30 ft trailer hitched up, it is still almost level, i don't even need to go to airbags.

If you can handle some strange handling until the front springs re-settle(2-4 months), and you really want a lift, there you go. I went with the procomp shocks that came with the kit.

Additional Note: lifted trucks tend to be a little more top heavy, and such, I was able to make my truck bullet proof stable again even with the lift, by putting -25 offset 16x10 wheels, with 305/70/16 tires on it.
What that did was take the original 16x7 wheel stance, added 1.5 inches of wheel width to each side because the wheels are 3 inches wider, but then the offset pushed the wheels another inch outwards, meaning the truck now sits with a 2.5 inch wider stance on each side, 5 inches wider overall, and it makes a amazing difference to high speed highway handling, and tight corners, or corners taken at speed, the truck is "planted" again like it should be.

Before i did the new wheels and tires, it was a bit top heavy feeling, but those or sililar wheels and tires will solve it nicely.

How much of a bigger tire are you wanting to run? You might be surprised how big of a tire you can run on a stock 2wd configuration. I switched from running a 285/75/16 for many years to a 275/70/18 with a 1" wider wheel with the same offset as the 16" stocker. It actually has room to run a little larger tire and this alone picked the truck up about an inch. The new shoes really fill up the fender wells which I really like. I have a F350 with stock 4" blocks out back and the front end picked up about 2" over stock and it's a good truck, but I do like driving the wife's buggy given the ride and maneuverability.

I am currently in the process of converting my 2wd F250 into a 4x4 and I have a 4" Pro Comp 2wd lift that I will be taking off of my truck. I run 35" tires with no problems. If you are interested I can provide pictures and I would be interested in getting rid of the parts

Thanks for the information as it has helped out in the search. I am wanting mine to look like similar to bwguardian's as mine is the same color just not as nice since it has been siting for 10 years or so. Don't really want a 6" lift just want to be able to crawl underneath it without rubbing against it. This is my first 4x2 in a very long time and I usually put a small lift on my 4x4's to bring them farther off the ground. Comparing Pro Comps 6" lift for the Excursion and F-250 the only difference I see is the rear leaf spring pack gets replace while the F-250 gets a block and AAL. Everything else is the same part numbers, so I am assuming any lift for the trucks will work just as long as I replace the soft leaf springs. Trying to find out if there is front coil springs available that are 2"-3" taller than the stock ones. Since I will not be going on 4x4 trails I plan on running 32" or 33" tires.

Clarencelester I would be interested in your lift if you could give me more information about it

I have bought front coil springs (Z code) and need to figure out the rear. I was thinking about going the b code route, but does anyone know the height difference from using stock springs compared to modded b codes using the X springs. Also, could someone let me why everyone replaces the springs instead of using an add -a -leaf. I just want to have a slight rake so when towing it would be level. So far this is my first forum to ever join and there is a lot of great information and enjoy reading what everyone has done to their Excursion.

Junior at ATS told me to purchase the Motorcraft Z codes and not from him. At that point, I was sold on this guy because he told me to purchase a product somewhere else other than from his shop.

For the rear, he suggested a set of ATS “B” codes coupled with the RAS I already had, instead of their “C” codes.

What I like most about the RAS, is that I can adjust the tension to give me whatever height I want. The more tension I dial in, the higher the back end of my Ex goes.

For everyday grocery getting, I have the RAS set at a certain point, so my rear ended isn’t sky high. To take on my TT, I dial in my Air Lift airbags to obtain that desired height.

Along with a Hellwig rear sway bar and Bilstein shocks, the Green Party Bus can maneuver through a tight autocross circuit with power oversteer and not hit a cone.

I have noticed most people use the "B" code or modded "B" code and a few people have mentioned the "C" code. I am having a hard time finding the difference between these on lift and function. I have come across post say anywhere from 1"-4" lift over factory, but I am not sure why it is not the same lift for all 2wd excursions. Could it be different qualities from different manufacturers? I can not find a consistent answer for the lifts on the above mentioned leaf springs. Right now I have spent too much on trying to get the Excursion back on the road and can't afford the RAS so trying to accomplish a 1-3" lift over stock with just springs. Unfortunately, need to work on the suspension now since the back with empty fuel tank is 1" lower than the front and need to tow a TT in a couple of weeks without dragging the hitch for 800 miles. ASFC27FTFBQ your setup would be ideal, but may be an overkill since the TT fully loaded is less than 7000#.

I would go with the B codes, first, saving your old springs in case you wanted to build the “Modified” B codes which is a combination of the B codes with one of your OEM spring leafs. I can’t remember which leaf, but there are posts regarding this.
Good luck. You are on the right track for increased height and spring rate.

If you only want to increase ride height why not use a set of stock 4x4 blocks in the rear and a coilover front shock.
