Refreshing 1973 BBF 460
This is the current combo
- horsepower goal is 600HP with 6000-6500rpm
- Ford 460 engine from 1973 Thunderbird
- stock crank and stock bore (4.360")
- stock D3 heads with about 95-97ccm (they have a very poor exhaust flow and there are suggestions online to use a cam that has a lot of exhaust duration to "make up" for the bad flowing exhaust)
- Weiand aluminium intake
- Holley HP EFI (from old donor car)
- hydraulic roller cam - custom grind
- forged rods Eagle CRS6605F3D (550USD)
Eagle CRS6605F3D H Beam Connecting Rods 6.605 Ford 429 460 - forged pistons
https://www.cnc-motorsports.com/pts5...-7-5l-460.html - turbo is a K29 turbo which can provide that kind of power:

I want to do about 10 PSI of boost with this combo, and would like to consider using the "mother thumpr" cam for that purpose.
Any thoughts?
Thanks
Surprised no one has chimed in
Maybe reword a new? post with mild turbo build suggestions
I know a guy around here who races a F150 at an 1/8 mile track in Evanston WY
Has a twin turbo alky 460 in it
I do not know how to get ahold of him
Tuning was his current issue last time I saw him
Just know that everything needs to be a little more robust for turbo applications
Ford T-Bird Turbo coupes had a cast 1 piece intercooler and Vintage Boss 302 rods (Hi-PO 289)same rods for instance
Not sure about the crank
I think 7.5 is damn tough and should handle 15 to 20 pounds of boost with no mods
You do not need much cam when using a turbo
I would use whatever you want and plan on changing it a time or two before you get it where you want
I have had three cams in my 69 Boss 302
Finally settled on a near stock grind
The cars were pretty healthy to begin with
So you could look for a cam that had specs like an old hotrod 429 had and maybe a bit more
Run the Thumper for now and see how it runs
