I need to replace the high third brake light on my 2008 F150. I ordered the ebay replacement and it came with a plug. My light doesn't have a plug, but seems to be hardwired into the harness. All the pictures of other lights feature the plug. I couldn't swap the bulbs because they're different between the two. I don't really want to cut the harness if I don't have to, is there something that I'm missing?
I don't know if your '08 is the same, but when I replaced the light in the '04 I had the plug was stuffed up under the headliner and I was able to pull it out.
Found it, way up in there with the plug attached to the roof metal with a plastic push in. Nearly impossible to get out and pull the wire out enough to replace it. Probably was easy when the headliner wasn't in, but a way harder job than it should have been for something that would be replaced sometime in it's life....
So you couldn't just disconnect the harness at each bulb, then plug them back into the new one? That's what I did because I also thought there was no connection, and it was possible because I bout the factory improved version. I guess mine is really tucked way up under there too. I replaced mine because the old one leaked. The new one leaked too, but I knew the mating surface was clean and the gasket is much larger and softer than the original, so I figured it was coming in at the screws. I put a glob of silicone RTV in each hole then used a straight edge to even it out - no leaks yet and its been two years.
