Over the weekend I read an article that prophesized the coming of an all electric Maverick in 2023.
Anyone have any real leads about such a package or just false internet prophets at work?
Thanks,
CCL.
I'll be veeeeery surprised if Ford adds much of anything (besides price) to 2023 Mavericks, just because it's looking like they aren't even going to be building any (other than '22 preorder rollovers) until well into 2024 at the current build pace. Honestly, even a hybrid AWD would shock me (which is an absolute no brainer that the '22 should have had). I'd expect '24 AWD hybrid and '25-27 for an EV version (if they make one).
An All Electric, plug-in type, Maverick, I'm trying to figure out where the big battery would go. If it sat under the unibody, would it be connected to the unibody, or would there need to be some kind of frame? Those things are really heavy, just bolting them up to the unibody, may require a LOT of extra folding of the sheet metal in order to be strong enough. GM has a system to put the battery in a very strong "bat box", and it becomes a weight bearing structure. it boils down to be a bat in a frame (removable, but it acts as a traditional frame). Maybe the bed could become a lot less "deep", just have the battery under the floor of the bed, you wouldn't get much volume out of the bed, but it could still be a true unibody! I guess it would be an AWD system with the rear being the favored power to wheel arraignment (due to the rear weight). Of course, I'm just guessing, I'm sure some of the guys on here have given it a lot of thought, and may have some better Ideas, as their big on unibody construction and have expertise in the area.
Might be a better fit for the Ranger. It has a full frame.
Most Electric vehicles are unit construction with no Frame.
My 2021 Bolt the battery becomes a major part of the structure of the car. The Maverick is a perfect fit for electric drive and one I personally would seek to buy.

GM's approach to the battery, is making the battery (hard and strong), thus it becomes part of a "frame". Believe it or not, ford made unibody trucks, a long time ago!, That did not mean they didn't sit on a frame, the two are not mutually exclusive.
The World's largest EV mfg. is Tesla, if you look at the way the "unit" is constructed, it is in no way a "unibody", it is more of a cage, with various types of steel and aluminum, depending on where the strength is needed/ safety etc. There are some very good "exploded views" of the Tesla available online. Where do you think the best place for the battery would be? Would it go under the bed, or the cab, or be stacked under the hood, with all the weight of the Bat, and the maverick being a fwd, maybe that's the place for it.
