Glad you found and corrected the leaking for now---its bound to return at some point if the original butyl tape was left in place.
The butyl doesn't wear out per se it simply becomes compressed and shrinks from age which allows water to leak past it. This then causes the nuts to feel loose, tightening them compresses the remaining butyl to re-seal against the body.
The fact your van is an E-350 has no bearing on the butyl----there is no difference in the bodies of any E-Series van regardless its GVW rating, this is just one of those things that happens over time..

So being that the tape compresses it probably wouldn't have any benefit to put thread locker on the window studs would it?
