stolen catalytic convertor

stolen catalytic convertor

On Friday 4/8 my catalytic convertor was stolen mid day, at work. It cost 1500 to replace it and the muffler and new exhaust pipe.

Looking for ideas on how to prevent it from happening again. '01 f350 super duty, crew cab. v10

They sell cages to go around the convertor, but if they have the time they can still cut through them.

I saw those; they look like they will rattle and make a lot of noise making me think I have an issue; plus it looks like they could easily snag something and drag it causing different problems.

more I think about it; leaning towards putting a plate that bolts on either into the frame or with some u bolts. don't wont to weld it in case I ever need to get in there myself.

i went through this and decided to use a delete pipe. that's one
way your cat won't get stolen off your truck

I'm getting ready for a whole new exhaust myself and that's what I'm going to do, I'm going to have the delete pipe flanged on both ends so when it comes time for testing, I can just swap it out with the cat and only have to replace the gaskets.

i went to three muffler shops, looked at several anti theft devices and researched products. all anti theft devices have weaknesses, muffler shops are a good source for information as they have probably seen every type of theft and device. i asked owner of muffler shop by me what he did on his super duty. he said he reduced his insurance deductible. most mufflers shops do more cats than mufflers.
