My '88 F150 Custom 300 C6 has 125,000 miles on it. I believe the shocks are original. The truck rides fine but I am thinking about replacing all 4 shocks because of the mileage and age of the truck...I am sure I would notice a difference. Can anyone suggest what shocks I should go with? I am looking for something that is relatively inexpensive and I would be doing them myself. Any suggestions? Pricing?
I bought Sensatracs for my Ranger because when I went to buy them, that is all they had in stock for the front. Otherwise I would have gotten all 4 the base shocks. But I just upgraded all 4 (had dad's Visa.) They seemed to work fine for me.
I think everyone has little to say due to the "inexpensive" part of your post. Shocks are very much like tires in the fact that you often get what you pay for as far as quality goes. I just put the Bilstein 5100 series (for lifted trucks) on my truck and I haven't regretted the loss of $280 one bit. These shocks are great and my ride is much more stable. I have bought Monroe's before but I would definitely take a good look at HOW I want to USE my vehicle before deciding to go the cheapest route. I made that mistake once with a Mustang I used to own and I have tried my best to learn from that mistake ever since.
I have the Pro Comp ES9000's on my truck. Granted, this truck is 4wd (as you can see in my signature below) and is a hard working truck, but these shocks suck up the bumps on the road pretty well, they are nitrogen charged so they rebound well, and finally for $130 for the set, I think are fairly well priced. I like them and did all the workon my truck myself, with help from my Brother and a friend.
Thanks for the replies guys. I just won an ebay auction for a brand new set of monroe reflex shocks (front & rear). I will post again once I install them and give you guys the end results. I don't see how I won't see a difference as the original shocks have 125,000 miles on them and they must be a little tired.
