What axle?
I appreciate all the help I have been getting on the board it is great, but I have another question.
How do I determine what axle I have? I have a 2001 exp 4x4 XLT. I know I have 3.55 gears and a limited slip in the back but I don't know if it is an 8.8 inch, 9 inch or other.
I was also wondering if I could take the Limited slip out and put in the front end if I put an Electric or air locker in the rear.

You have two choices for diff size. 8.8, which is common on 4.6 Expeditions and 9.75, which is common on 5.4 models.
Looking at the diff from the back of the vehicle: 8.8 diff cover is more or less oval, that is the right half of the cover is the mirror image of the left half. The 9.75 cover has a rounded left side and a right side that has two angles, almost triangular in contour.
