Ive been trying to find an ignition and door lock set for a while and still nothing. Ordered a full set a month ago from macs auto parts that they still show as in-stock but are back ordered. I finally got annoyed and cancelled. My question is about whether the 73-79 door locks can be used in my 72 f250 by swapping the pawl on the back end of it. Looking at pictures, they both attach the same way with a clip on the end. I dont have pictures of the differences but the 73-79 has a hole in the end that a rod would attach through and the 67-72 just has a straight end. I have door locks and a beat up ignition and no idea whether they are even keyed the same since truck and parts truck had no keys with them.
I couldnt get the ignition lock cylinder out of the ignition switch. I ended up drilling it and getting it out of the switch. I ordered a new lock cylinder for it. When that gets here, I will re-key the two door locks to the ignition. I was going to see if I could use the 73-79 parts but no one answered whether the pawls could be swapped, so I sped things up. It actually works better this was and cheaper with my original parts.
I tried local here because I seen motorcraft cylinders. When I called, they said they had to order them from Ford. So I put the kabash on that too. Ordered one that was from Standard Motor Products. Ive used other parts from them before. As far as Macs goes, they were wearing me out, so I cut my loses. Didnt want to waste any more time. There was nothing wrong with the parts I have got from them though. Thanks for the help. I might need an ignition switch as well. Some of the plastic that goes around the blades that shapes the plug broke off when it came out of my bench vice and hit the floor. I was drilling it out when that happened.
Both sets will actually work all you have to do is remove the clip on back ( you can see it on the picture you posted) and switch out round hole lever to the original. Very easy to do you could get a set at AutoZone or Napa cheaper then npd
